Autumn Decor 2016 & Welcome Back!

Hi! I’m back (finally) from my three month sabbatical and so excited to share with you all what I’ve been up to. Over the next weeks, you will get a glimpse at some things I worked on over the summer. Most of it was not exciting: repainting and replacing siding on our house, repainting walls inside to cover scuffs and marks, as well as improving my flower gardens. However, I DID accomplish the successful creation of “The Flutermacawn” children’s book. The book turned out beautifully (like my Facebook page or follow me on Instagram for a glimpse at the result in a week or so)!

For this first post I want to share with you the autumn decor I added throughout our home before it’s too late! Can you believe we are already halfway through October? I did enjoy my summer and it went by too quickly.

Autumn Decor

This year I pulled out a few simple pieces of autumn decor to place on table tops and gave my front entrance an autumn touch. One idea I had was to create a large coaster of leaves to use like a doily on my coffee table.

Glue fake leaves onto cardboard circle to make a coaster

I simply used my hot glue gun to attach fake leaves to a cardboard circle I had leftover from this giant ship wheel I made.

I used it underneath this basket to protect my coffee table from getting scratched. This same concept could be used to make cute autumn decor in the form of coasters for mugs.

I love this fall leaves coaster idea!

Pumpkins

How can you decorate for fall without pumpkins? I didn’t buy many this year, but these mini ones always make me go “Aww!”

Of course the white pumpkin trend was employed in my home. This styrofoam pumpkin is supposed to be used for crafting, but I like it just the way it is.

Love white pumpkins! This styrofoam pumpkin is great autumn decor.

Outdoor Elements

A couple years ago I gathered dry grapevines from the forest behind my house and made a few wreaths. They get use every year. If you have any wild grapes growing near you, definitely make some wreaths to enjoy for yourself!

I filled a rustic wooden box with pinecones as our table centerpiece. It’s so fun to bring the outdoors in and celebrate earthy elements with autumn decor.

My kitchen makeover to a brighter, whiter space makes the seasonal decorations really pop!

Front Entrance

Outside the front of my house, our entrance is adorned with a few fall touches. I gathered some corn stalks from a nearby field and tied them up with a ribbon to place in the corner. Next to it is my grapevine gourd I’ve owned for many years. Some pieces of autumn decor never go out of style.

That big leaf wreath I made last year and still love it against our red front door!
You might remember this bench on our front step, but I’ve never shared what I painted on the seat. “Hello” greets our guests as the enter our home for fall fun.

Believe me, we have been having a LOT of fall fun so far. This autumn life is crazy in the Woods household. We’ve attended two weddings in September, welcomed two new babies into our extended family, Lily started preschool (!), and baby Theo started solids! I am so happy to be back at blogging, but with all this busy business, I might not be blogging as regularly as I once was. Forgive me! Thank you for joining me for my autumn decor and I hope you’ll come back again.

Signature welcome to the woods
