Front Door Refresh: Paint It Turquoise! Entryway Makeover Part 1

A few years back, I did a front door refresh that included removing the screen door and painting the main entry door a deep red color. This festive color looked so great during the fall, winter, Christmas time, and spring. Many a wreath adorned it and I loved driving up to my house with the red door greeting me. That is, until I repainted the kitchen and removed all the red from the design of my house.

With a red front door, wreaths look beautiful for any occasion, especially the holidays!

Isn’t that how it always goes? You improve something in your home that highlights the next thing to be done. It is never-ending. Anyways, after I moved to a monochromatic color scheme in my home design, I have felt my front door just doesn’t fit in anymore. It was time for a new paint color that matched the inside. As you know, my living room looks like this:

Teal and gray living room design, modern decor

I used that same teal color I mixed up for the coffee table to paint the walls of my bathroom. This time I mixed it with a little gray to tone it down and completed a front door refresh!

My daughter was playing peekaboo through these holes for a solid half hour afterwards.

I didn’t take process pictures because it really was as simple as mixing up my color and rolling it on. I used a mini roller with a 3/8″ nap to get a heavy coat. After two coats of paint and a day of dry time, the front door refresh was done.

Turquoise front door color, paint your entryway door a bright cheerful color!

Bam! Totally different, right?

This color is so cheerful, I hung a flowering spring wreath up right away.

Beautiful front entry to bilevel, split foyer house. Bench and bright teal front door make it inviting!

The difference still catches me off guard every time I come home. However, it certainly goes with the rest of the house now!

What do you think of the new color!? I asked my readers on Facebook what I should do beforehand; the winning choice was some sort of teal. Did I pick the kind of color you would go for on your house?

Until next Monday!

  2. I was flooded by Harvey and have redone my whole house. Neutral walls and trim in a beige to grey tone, with a darker shade trim. My husband wanted to go modern, so I bought straight line furniture with metal trim and sleek lines accent chairs all in shades of grey and white. He wanted bright, so I accented with tourquoise and orange. I now want to do my front door with a dark teal color, so was thrilled to see yours. I just love the look. I’m still looking for the perfect door, but you have inspired me so much. Can’t wait to have it finished.

    1. Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to hear your house was flooded by Hurricane Harvey! It sounds like you’ve made the best of the situation and renovated the space to be gorgeous. I love a modern style and would really enjoy seeing photographs of your house if you’re willing to share them?
I’m glad to hear I’ve inspired you and hope to hear from you again soon Jean!
