The last piece of the puzzle for our new master bedroom is this huge mirror! If you follow me on Facebook, you have already seen me paint watercolor for above the bed and refinish the midcentury dresser set. I have been waiting for years for the perfect spot to put this mirror I got off Craigslist for $25. Finally I have a master bedroom where it fits and I built a frame to make it really luxurious. This white washing technique I also used on the chimney that runs through the bedroom. The previous owners wrapped it in an orange stained wood. After the white washing it all blends together without robbing the wood of its beautiful texture and grain pattern.

  1. Will you please share how you actually put this all together? I’m just scored a huge mirror off craigslist and want to put it in my daughter’s bedroom. This is the PERFECT look!!! How are you attaching the mirror to the frame?!?! Will you share what the back looks like as a reference? Did you glue it at all, or just use the mirror clips? Approximately how much space is between the edge of the mirror and the outside of the frame? All of this doesn’t come natural to me…

    1. Hi Melanie!
I did make a video posted at the top of this blog article that shows you the tutorial for how I made this mirror. I didn’t use glue, only mirror clips every six inches or so. There is approximately six inches between the edge of the mirror and the outside of the frame. Good luck with your project! I’d love to see a picture when you’re done building the frame. 🙂

  2. Hi Melissa!

Did you make a rabbet in the frame? I’ve watched the video and it looks like there isn’t one there! My mirror has some scratches on the edges that I’d like to cover up and i’m not sure how to do that, especially without making rabbets in the wood.

    Thanks!

    1. No rabbet, the mirror edges are covered up because I made the frame slightly smaller than the mirror. The mirror is mounted to the back with clips. Since the mirror was leaning against the wall, I thought it was okay to not have the mirror flush against the back of the frame. However, if you were to frame a mirror hanging on the wall, rabbets would make the mirror fit into the frame better and be more flush. I hope that helps!
